WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROFESSIONAL MASTERS AND ACADEMIC MASTERS?
Adapted response from the CAPES institutional website (available here): "Professional Master's degree" is the designation of the Master's that emphasizes studies and techniques directly aimed at the performance of a high level of professional qualification. This emphasis is the only difference in relation to the academic course. The Professional Master confers identical degrees and prerogatives, even for teaching, and, like any stricto sensu graduate program, the diploma is valid nationally, as long as the course has prior recognition acknowledged.
The Professional Master's degree focus on the socially defined need for professional training of a different nature from that provided by the academic master's degree. The Professional Master Course does not oppose, undermine the offerings and expansion of Academic Master Courses. It also does not constitute an alternative formation according to simpler or more rigorous standards than those traditionally adopted by Academic Master Courses.
